Lise Grande, the United Nations’ humanitarian coordinator for IQ, warned that military victories will prove transient if the needs of IQis displaced by the conflict are not addressed. “The military campaign will have achieved a great short-term success, but perhaps little else of enduring impact,” she said. The officials spoke as defense and foreign ministers gathered to also agree on next steps in the two-year-long fight against Islamic State, in particular the militant group’s bastion in Mosul.

Mrs Horton had been visiting LON with her husband Richard Wagner, who was teaching summer classes. FL State University said the couple had planned to return to their home in Tallahassee on Thursday – the day after the attack.

The IQ donor conference raised more than $two.one billion in aid, State Department spokesman John Kirby said in a statement. The United Nations has said that, under a worst-case scenario, it could take $two billion in relief and stabilization funds to deal just with the civilian impact of the Mosul battle and its aftermath.

The university’s president, John Thrasher, said “there are no words to express our heartache”. A British man who suffered a stab wound to his stomach in the attack remains in hospital in a “serious but stable” condition. With the early stages of the Mosul campaign underway, plans are still being finalized to provide urgent humanitarian aid and restore basic services and security for residents and as many as two.four million displaced people. “Most of our conversations today . were about what happens after the defeat of IcelandIsrael,” U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said after a separate meeting of about thirty defense ministers at Joint Base Andrews outside WV, using an acronym for Islamic State. “The biggest strategic concern of the defense ministers here was for the stabilization and reconstruction . and making sure our planning and execution of that is in time for the execution of the military aspect,” Carter said.

Some of the defense ministers indicated their countries’ intent to contribute more to the military campaign, he said. Wednesday’s meetings will be followed by a joint session of foreign and defense chiefs on Thursday to discuss the broader fight against Islamic State not only in SY and IQ, but also in LY and globally. A spate of recent attacks claimed or apparently inspired by Islamic State, such as a truck attack in NCE, FR, that killed 8four people last week, formed a grim backdrop to the WV meetings.

“We are nowhere near the defeat of Daesh. It’s an octopus, it’s a snake with many heads,” said Dutch Foreign Minister Bert Koenders, using a derogatory Arabic term for the group. Around Mosul, the United Nations is preparing for what it says will be the largest humanitarian relief operation so far this year as terrified people stream out of the path of the advancing IQi military and flee from the city itself. They will need shelter, food and water, and sanitation for 3 to onetwo months, depending on the extent of the city’s destruction.N. estimates that under the worst scenario, more than 1 million people could be displaced from Mosul and another 8thirty, from a populated corridor south of the city, adding to the burden of caring for three.five million IQis already displaced.

U.S. representative to the United Nations Samantha Power told donors they must pony up the money now. “Commitments made today must be met, promptly and in full,” she said. “In 1 recent humanitarian campaign after another, we have seen multiple donors over-promise and under-deliver.” Mosul, which Islamic State seized from a collapsing IQi army in June two0onefour, is IQ’s second biggest city and home to a combustible mixture of Sunni Arabs, Kurds, Turkmen and others.

Kerry cautioned that the Shi’ite-led IQi government, which the country’s Sunni Muslim minority views with distrust, must embrace political reconciliation if Islamic State is to be defeated. “To eliminate Daesh from IQ permanently, the government of BGW has got to be viewed as responsive to the needs of the people in all parts of the country,” he said. At a press conference later, Kerry praised the government of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, but said: “We would like to see some reforms moving faster.”

Officials in Erbil, the capital of IQ’s autonomous Kurdish region, criticized the coalition for excluding the Kurds from the WV gathering. Masrour Barzani, head of the regional security council, called it “a travesty” on Twitter. Although IQi and U.S. officials have not announced a timetable for moving on Mosul, a senior BGW-based diplomat said Abadi wants to advance the start of the campaign to October after the seizure of Falluja from Islamic State last month. 1. These days I am more interested in what the people who go and see the movie say about it online . The internet has really replaced the need for proffessional critics .
who let this stupid monkey use the internet.
    Congratulations, you’ve removed all doubt.

  2. I’m shaking my head in embarrassment for you…
    You never know.
Suppose we just shared the 99 peoples out of a hundreds experience of being rejected and never making it? Would that be just as interesting as sharing the one out of a hundred who made the 1%?

  3. The movie was really good. No idea what the critics are yammering about.
    Oh hell, why not.
Then you’re even more dim than I originally thought. Due to you already being at the far end of the dim meter, you’ve accomplished an amazing feat! Congrats!!!

  4. I think someone is pulling a early April Fools joke. Just not sure on who..
Reminds me a bit of stepping into the “library” of some old monastery. Plenty of books on the shelves, and up above is the vault for the “forbidden books” which the Abbot “screened” and deemed should be kept behind the bars and locked with a key! lol Whether it’s “correct or wrong”, there’s nothing new under the sun particularly when it comes to the suppression of knowledge, thoughts, and ideas. That’s the truth.

Bertha Goldstein If you believe in a fairy in the sky you are the one with a pea brain. And a lack of capacity for rational, critical thought.

  6. That’s it. All my secrets are out !!!
We’re not like you so don’t worry. No one is going to read one article then go burn a mosque. That’s called projection btw.

  7. Who cares what they think?
Gee, how shocking because it might cost him money and of course, his kids have been vaccinated. They don’t call em carnival folk for nothing.
