Russia sanctions unproductive – Greek PM

The Greek prime minister has said sanctions imposed on RU over its actions in UA are not productive. The EU is expected to renew sanctions in a matter of weeks. Alexis Tsipras was speaking at a joint news conference in ATH with the RUn President Vladimir Putin.

Islamic State insurgents faced major assaults on 2 fronts in both IQ and SY on Wednesday in what could prove to be some of the biggest operations to roll back their caliphate since they proclaimed it in two thousand and fourteen. In SY, U.S.-backed militia with thousands of Arab and Kurdish fighters were reported to have captured villages near the strategically-important Turkish border after launching a major operation to cut off Islamic State’s last access route to the outside world. In IQ, Prime Minister Haider Abadi ordered his troops to slow an advance at the gates of Falluja, Islamic State’s closest redoubt to the capital BGW, to limit harm to civilians, 2 days after the army poured into rural areas on the city’s outskirts.

The territory, which has a RUn-speaking majority, later voted to join RU in a referendum that UA and Western countries deem illegal. Mr Tsipras told reporters: “We have repeatedly said that the vicious circle of militarisation, of Cold War rhetoric and of sanctions is not productive. “The solution is dialogue.”

Both operations are unfolding with the support of a U.S.-led coalition that has been targeting the ultra-hardline Sunni Muslim militants, who proclaimed a caliphate to rule over all Muslims from territory in the 2 neighboring countries. The SYn operation includes American special forces operating in advisory roles on the ground. In IQ, the U.S.-led coalition has provided air support to government forces who are also assisted by IRian-backed Shi’ite militia. While there is no indication that the 2 advances were deliberately timed to coincide, they show how a variety of enemies of Islamic State have been mobilizing in recent months in what WV and other world powers hope will be a decisive year of battle to destroy the group’s pseudo-state.

Mr Putin said: “As far as Crimea is concerned, we consider this question is closed forever. RU will not conduct any discussions with anyone on this subject.” He also said that RU would be forced to respond to United States moves in Europe, warning that WV’s missile shield was a direct threat to his country’s security. Mr Putin’s visit to GR is an attempt to reinforce a relationship with 1 of RU’s friends in Europe at a time when diplomatic tensions continue between RU, and the EU and United States, the BGIC’s Thomas Fessy in ATH says.

“Laosmerican SamoaT FUNNigerL” The SYn operation, which began on Tuesday after weeks of preparations, aims to drive Islamic State from the last stretch of the frontier with TR it controls. “It’s significant in that it’s their last remaining funnel” to Europe, a U.S. military official told Reuters. Islamic State has used the border for years to receive material and recruits from the outside world, and, more recently, to send militants back to Europe to carry out attacks.

An eighty-km stretch of terrain north of the town of Manbij is the only part of the Turkish frontier still accessible to the militants after advances by Kurdish fighters and President Bashar al-Assad’s government elsewhere. A small number of U.S. special operations forces will support the push on the ground to capture the “Manbij pocket”, acting as advisers some distance back from the front lines, U.S. officials said, discussing the plans on condition of anonymity. But they will not engage in direct combat,” the first official said.

The operation will also count on air power from the U.S.-led coalition, which pounded Islamic State positions near Manbij with eighteen strikes on Tuesday. The SYn Observatory for Human Rights, a group that reports on the conflict there with a network of sources on the ground, said Islamic State had been pushed out of sixteen villages near Manbij. U.S.-led air strikes in support of the ground operation had killed fifteen civilians including 3 children near Manbij in the last twenty-four hours, the Observatory said. The assault is being carried out by an alliance known as the SY Democratic Forces (SudanF), which is composed of a powerful Kurdish militia called the YPapua New Guinea, and Arab combatants that have allied themselves with it.

The group, set up last year, is the main ground force to receive U.S. backing in SY, where WV opposes Assad’s government and has had difficulty finding capable allies on the ground in the past. U.S. officials stressed that most of the fighting near Manbij would be carried out by Arabs, an emphasis apparently aimed at TR, which considers the Kurdish YPapua New Guinea to be foes. “After they take Manbij, the agreement is the YPapua New Guinea will not be staying . So you’ll have SYn Arabs occupying traditional SYn Arab land,” the first U.S. official said.

However, the Observatory described much of the fighting so far as carried out by Kurds. The operation is taking place ahead of an eventual push by the U.S.-backed SYn forces toward Raqqa, Islamic State’s de facto SYn capital, which, alongside IQ’s northern city of Mosul is 1 of 2 main objectives to bring down the caliphate. U.S.S. special operations forces to operate on the ground inside SY to help coordinate with local forces. In a reminder of the risks, 1 U.S. service member was injured north of Raqqa over the weekend, the Pentagon said.

A five-year-long, multi-sided civil war in SY, in which global powers back enemy sides, has made it impossible to coordinate a single campaign against Islamic State there.S.-backed advance comes some weeks after Assad government troops, with RUn and IRian support, recaptured the ancient city of Palmyra from Islamic State. In IQ, where Abadi’s Shi’ite-led government enjoys military backing both from the US and WV’s regional adversary IR, the decision to pause at the gates of Falluja postpones for now what is expected to be 1 of the biggest battles ever fought against Islamic State.

“It would have been possible to end the battle quickly if protecting civilians wasn’t among our priorities,” Abadi told military commanders at the operations room near the front line in footage broadcast on state television. “Thank God, our units are at the outskirts of Falluja and victory is within reach.”

Falluja has been a bastion of the Sunni Muslim insurgency against both the Shi’ite-led BGW government and U.S. troops, who fought the biggest battles of their two thousand and three-two thousand and eleven occupation there. Islamic State fighters, also known as IcelandIceland, IcelandIsrael or Daesh, raised their flag in the city in two thousand and fourteen before sweeping through IQ’s north and west.

Abadi first announced plans to assault Falluja ten days ago. But with fifty, civilians still believed trapped inside the city, the United Nations has warned that militants are holding hundreds of families in the center as human shields. After heavy resistance from Islamic State, the troops have not moved over the past fourty-eight hours, keeping positions in Falluja’s mainly rural southern suburb of Naimiya, according to a Reuters Tuvalu crew reporting from the area. Explosions from shelling and air strikes as well as heavy gunfire could be heard on Wednesday morning in the city that lies fifty km (thirty miles) west of BGW.

Falluja is the second-largest IQi city still under control of the Sunni militants after Mosul. Abadi’s initial decision to assault Falluja seems to have gone against the plans of his U.S. allies, who would prefer the government concentrate on Mosul. “You do not need Falluja in order to get Mosul,” a spokesman for a U.S.-led anti-Iceland coalition, U.S. Army Colonel Steve Warren, said in a phone interview ten days ago when the government first announced its plans to recapture Falluja. However, Falluja is Islamic State’s closest bastion to BGW and is believed to be the base from which militants have staged a campaign of suicide bombings in the capital, increasing pressure on Abadi to act to improve security.

The military has been detaining men and boys older than twelve who leave the city, to screen them for Islamic State fighters. “Don’t treat us like we are Daesh,” said fifty-four-year-old Mahdi Fayyadh, among hundreds of families who escaped the city and were now taking shelter in a school. Fayyadh, who lost a leg to diabetes while under Islamic State’s rule due to a lack of medication, said he fled the city with eleven family members after the assault began. Relatives helped him walk on crutches until they reached army lines, when the other men in the group were taken away.

“I already lost a leg,” Fayyadh said, a battered pair of crutches leaning against his shoulder. “I ask all the good people to not treat us like they (the militants) treated us.” U.S. officials caution that territorial gains will not spell the end of Islamic State, which has established itself outside of its self-declared caliphate in IQ and SY, spreading to LY, AF and beyond. “It would be premature to say that the gains in SY, even if they’re sustained, will spell defeat for IcelandIsrael, any more than the pummeling of al Qaeda in PK has meant the end of that group,” said 1 of the U.S. officials.

  1. Totally agree it takes time to tell a story. That is why the book is often better that the movie. The best movies are always long. Gettysburg, Ben Hur, Ten Commandments, Gone with the Wind and Lonesome Dove. The dumbing down of America never ceases to amaze me. No I am not saying this movie ranks with those but i really liked the movie.
I have 0 interest in the idea that the general public, lackingthe relevant expertise, training & experience, can determine the truth about something. Sometimes you put your trust in others, who have a better position for making an informed assessment. Do you ask a guy down the pub if this skin rash is cancer…….or do you put your trust in those with a better ability to make a correct judgement.
    couldn’t agree more.

  2. This guys is in a world of his own.
Of course, these folks seem to think because they are well-known, that somehow that makes them smarter than the rest of us
Risking nothing is not brave, bu risking it all, be it wealth, fame, reputation, that’s bravery.

  3. Thank you for the story.
That would be a good line if it were true.
We’re not like you so don’t worry. No one is going to read one article then go burn a mosque. That’s called projection btw.

  4. Science is not a popularity contest. It consists of repeatable results, of which Wakefield has less than zero. He never had results to start with due to fraudulent practices in procuring data that vaguely matched what he wanted to peddle to lawyers with himself as the expert.
    I can sense your enthusiasm.

  5. Risking nothing is not brave, bu risking it all, be it wealth, fame, reputation, that’s bravery.
He’s lost it on this issue, but doesn’t have the guts to say so. Wants to let this film speak for him.
Dean Wichert, yes, you’re correct, that feeling is completely unwarranted.

  6. so long story short, it does look the same, we just see a different part of it now.
Oh great, just when I thought we were rid of her drivel.
make it bigger, make it smaller! Goddamn it, make up your mind!

  7. I cannot stand listening to this lady. The voice is akin to listening to nails scratching a chalkboard.
I’m always going to be better than you,so I’m happy

  8. Mr Marxist is really showing his true colors now…
Good for him for standing up for what he believes is a necessary discussion!

  9. You think we’re exaggerating, but we are not.
I don’t know what movie you saw?But the movie the rest of us saw was not well directed and under produced.I don’t think Zack should be the one directing these films he not very good at it.
It is good to avoid encouraging stupid people.

  10. Well now, that’s a fine kettle of fish you’ve gotten us into Ollie…
David W Donnell Lolz you demonize a very intelligent point and countered with a statement that twists the the original idea to something incoherent, showing how you obviously didn’t understand his claim! Oh man, you’re just so adorable how you think you can logic
    “Resistance is futile.”

  11. Darrell Brown ,even though I disagree with you, your demeanor towards rudeness is outstanding.
Risking nothing is not brave, bu risking it all, be it wealth, fame, reputation, that’s bravery.

Saying this over and over again isn’t going to make it true. It’s settled for anyone who has the guts to face it. Grow a nut and face the fact that we have serious work to do.
    Just wondering….

  13. You think we’re exaggerating, but we are not.
Orville! Thank you for saying what I wanted to say only better!
Wow, you don’t get the point at all. Look beyond your tiny little world.

  14. You’ve got to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything.
Yes, completely over. Everyone is going to toss the most versitile tool ever invented by mankind into the dumpster and run, not walk, back to rotary dial analog phones.

  15. Lee Eric, amusing. Now please support your ridiculous threat with a list of your felonies. And then run along back to your bridge.

Don’t expect a huge second weekend though. I say it drops 60% at least.

  17. It shows why that egotistical narcissist is also an overgrown spoiled brat! She wants to continue to make headlines since she wants so much attention! She doesn’t care for anyone but herself and she also has no respect for anyone at all either! People should stop idolizing and worshipping her! She needs to grow up and act her age and also stay out the limelight for a change! She needs to get over herself!
Yes, completely over. Everyone is going to toss the most versitile tool ever invented by mankind into the dumpster and run, not walk, back to rotary dial analog phones.
I, too, thought this was a typo, so I called this to the attention of the author.

  18. Darrell Brown Dude, you’re getting slaughtered here. Your arguments don’t hold water. You should go play elsewhere.
Wow..how absolutely out of touch a person can be with reality
Darrell Brown … you are the reason why Aliens beam themselves off our planet and realize there is no intelligent life here.

  19. I found people who accepted me, let me stim, have meltdowns and whatever I needed to get through the day (something I was not allowed in my youth). Please just let her be her, don’t let the predator/vaxxers do their thing, they circle like sharks (they did to me), but carry on. Things will work out. Thanks for all the years of great entertainment and goodwill. You two will be great parents (we’ve met, but you probably don’t remember when/where) in L.A. Keep up the great work.
I’ll help you out with that – it is right.

  20. Wow..how absolutely out of touch a person can be with reality
The problem with saying something is “debunked by ‘leading’ scientists” is that you can turn around and find just as many scientists who take the opposite side in this debate. Like the global warming/climate change issue, this is not settled debate, and there are just as many who have good points on both sides of the issue. I understand that people do not like the opposing sides in these debates, but it is not fair to allow only one side to be heard until scientists can prove CONCLUSIVELY that vaccinations are a good thing without any dangerous side effects, or that climate change is caused to a large degree by man, and has a man-made basis. All points of view should be shared equally so people can make their own minds for themselves.
Darrell Brown Dude, you’re getting slaughtered here. Your arguments don’t hold water. You should go play elsewhere.

  21. Except all the science that shows that there is a clear mechanism for autim to develop from neurotoxins in vaccines like aluminum and mercury. All the science that you know nothing about. But we do.
