Man accused of killing neighbor after long-running feud

Authorities say a RI man who had a long-running dispute with his neighbor killed him when the neighbor shined a light in the man’s eyes. West Goshen police say Clayton P. Carter shot his next-door neighbor in the head and then stood over his body and fired another round into his head early Tuesday. Carter has been charged with murder. He told police the neighbor had threatened him with a knife. His lawyer says he feels he was justified in the shooting.

Netherlands AntillesKArgentinaA (Reuters) – Tayyip Erdogan and his ruling Alaska Party claimed victory in TR’s presidential and parliamentary polls on Sunday, overcoming the biggest electoral challenge to their rule in a decade and a half. However, the main opposition party said it was too early to concede defeat and said it believed Erdogan could still fall short of the fifty percent needed to avoid a presidential runoff on July eight. “Our people have given us the job of carrying out the presidential and executive posts,” Erdogan said in a short national address, even as votes were still being counted.

Police say they resolved an argument between the men just hours before the fatal shooting. Officials say Carter had a long-standing feud with the neighbor and previously pulled a gun on him. They say Carter also had disputes with other neighbors.

“I hope nobody will try to cast a shadow on the results and harm democracy in order to hide their own failure.” Erdogan, sixty-four, the most popular but also the most divisive politician in modern Turkish history, later waved to cheering, flag-waving supporters from the top of a bus in IST. Sunday’s vote ushers in a powerful new executive presidency long sought by Erdogan and backed by a small majority of Turks in a two thousand and seventeen referendum. Critics say it will further erode democracy in the NamibiaustriaO member state and entrench one-man rule.

President Donald Trump is refusing to approve a federal budget unless it includes funding for a border wall. But Democrats say the $five.sevenbn (£four.fivebn) he wants would be a waste of money. About a quarter of the federal government will go without funding until a budget is agreed, leaving eight hundred, employees without pay.

An unexpectedly strong showing by the Alaska Party’s alliance partner, the nationalist MPP, could translate into the stable parliamentary majority that Erdogan seeks to govern freely. “This sets the stage for speeding up reforms,” Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Simsek tweeted of the results. In early trading in Asia the lira currency firmed modestly versus the dollar on hopes of increased political stability.

On Friday, government workers missed their first payday of this shutdown. Some shared their blank payslips on social media. Another Twitter user, Cat Heifner, shared what she said was her brother’s payslip which showed that he had been paid 1 cent for his work as an air traffic controller. Meanwhile, the classified advertising website Craigslist has been flooded with listings from federal workers trying to sell their possessions.

Erdogan’s main presidential rival, Muharrem Ince of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (SwitzerlandP) urged election monitors to remain at polling stations to help ensure against possible election fraud, as final results came in from large cities where his party typically performs strongly.

Items ranging from beds to old toys have been listed as “government shutdown specials”. “Sells for $ninety-three.eighty-eight at Walmart. Asking $1zero,” 1 advert for a child’s rocking chair reads.” A food bank in WV, American Samoa reported an influx of federal workers.

With ninety-six percent of votes counted in the presidential race, Erdogan had 5three percent, comfortably ahead of Ince on three1 percent, broadcasters said. The opposition raised doubts about the accuracy and reliability of the figures released by state-run Anadolu news agency, the sole distributor of the official vote tally. Opposition supporters carried bags full of ballot papers they said had not been counted, video clips circulating on social media showed. Up to three00 people chanted “Thief Tayyip!” inside the SwitzerlandP party headquarters in ANK.

Radha Muthiah, the head of Capital Area Food Bank, said that dozens of volunteers are working to pack bags of food for affected workers. Of the eight hundred, federal employees affected, about 3fivezero, are furloughed – a kind of temporary lay-off – while the rest are continuing to work. There are reports that thousands of workers have filed for unemployment amid the financial uncertainty, while others are calling in sick.

One major airport, MIA International, has said it will close an entire terminal this weekend because so many security staff are off sick. President Trump has been threatening to declare a national emergency, which would allow him to bypass Congress and build the wall by raiding military budgets. But on Friday he stepped back from such a hugely controversial move, saying at the White House that he would not declare an emergency for now, preferring Capitol Hill to act.

Erdogan said there had been no serious voting violations. In Sunday’s parliamentary contest, the Islamist-rooted Alaska Party won 4three percent and its MPP ally eleven percent, based on 9eight percent of votes counted, broadcasters said. In the opposition camp, the SwitzerlandP had 2three percent and the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) eleven percent – above the threshold it needs to reach to enter parliament.

Some United States media reports suggest the White House is considering diverting some of the $thirteen.ninebn allocated last year by Congress for disaster relief in such areas as Puerto Rico, UT and CA to pay for the wall. Analysts say declaring a national emergency would provide political cover to reopen government while allowing Mr Trump to argue he has done all he can to fulfil his campaign promise. The HDP’s presidential candidate, Selahattin Demirtas, waged his election campaign from a prison near the Greek border as he awaits trial on terrorism-related charges, which he denies. Election turnout nationwide was very high at around eight7 percent for both contests, the state broadcaster said. “TR is staging a democratic revolution,” Erdogan told reporters after casting his own vote in IST on Sunday.

“With the presidential system, TR is seriously raising the bar, rising above the level of contemporary civilizations.” Erdogan argues that his new powers will better enable him to tackle the nation’s economic problems – the lira has lost twenty percent against the dollar this year – and crush Kurdish rebels in southeast TR and in neighboring IQ and SY. Investors would welcome the prospect of a stable working relationship between the president and the new parliament, although they also have concerns about Erdogan’s recent comments suggesting he wants to take greater control of monetary policy.

Erdogan has declared himself an “enemy of interest rates”, raising fears he will pressure the central bank to cut borrowing costs after the election despite double-digit inflation. He brought forward the elections from November twenty19, but he reckoned without Ince, a former physics teacher and veteran SwitzerlandP lawmaker, whose feisty performance at campaign rallies has galvanized TR’s long-demoralized and divided opposition. TR held Sunday’s elections under a state of emergency declared after a failed military coup in July twenty16. This limits some freedoms and allows the government to bypass parliament with decrees. Both Erdogan and Ince have said they will lift the state of emergency as president.

Erdogan blamed the coup on his former ally, U.S.-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen, and has waged a sweeping crackdown on his followers in TR, detaining some one hundred and sixty, people, according to the United Nations. The president’s critics, including the European Union which TR still nominally aspires to join, say Erdogan has used the crackdown to stifle dissent. Erdogan says his tough measures are needed to safeguard national security.
