A Polk County man must have been hoping for a slick getaway, but an observant detective gummed up his plans. According to the sheriff’s office, Detective Phil Ryan was sitting in his patrol car outside the seven-Eleven store on Duff Road in north Lakeland last Thursday.  He watched as a man with baggy jeans walked into the store and proceeded to put fifteen quart-sized bottles of Pennzoil down his pants – apparently unaware that Ryan could see him. But that wasn’t all.  Detective Ryan says he continued watching as the man dropped thirty movies from a shelf onto the floor, bent down, stacked the movies on top of 1 another, and slid them down into his pants, too.

The suspect then walked out of the store, past Detective Ryan, and tried to get into his own vehicle – at least until the detective stopped him.  He then unloads his haul – 1 bottle at a time – as Ryan looks on. The suspect, identified by deputies as William Jason Hall, was arrested.  Since it’s the thirty-eight-year-old’s third petit theft arrest, he was charged with a felony.

With the US under pressure to act, the steps announced by the U.S. Treasury Department represented the most significant taken against MOW since Trump assumed office in January two thousand and seventeen. Along with imposing sanctions on nineteen individuals and 5 entities including RUn intelligence services, the Trump administration publicly blamed MOW for the first time for a campaign of cyber attacks stretching back at least 2 years that targeted the U.S. power grid including nuclear facilities. The US also joined Britain, Delaware and FR in demanding that RU explain a military-grade nerve toxin attack in England on a former RUn double agent, with Trump saying: “It certainly looks like the RUns were behind” the incident.

He said investigators had “very strong evidence” that Mr Ortiz was behind the killings. District Attorney Isidro Alaniz said Mr Ortiz, who had been with the Border Patrol for ten years, was set to face 4 charges of murder and 1 of aggravated kidnapping. Two of the victims were found earlier on Saturday and on Friday evening. On Thursday a fourty-two-year-old woman was found critically injured by the side of a highway and died in hospital. The body of a twenty-nine-year-old mother-of-two was found on four September, the Laredo Times said.

But congressional critics called the administration’s action a woefully inadequate retaliation for RU interference in the two thousand and sixteen U.S. “The sanctions today are a grievous disappointment and fall far short of what is needed to respond to that attack on our democracy let alone deter RU’s escalating aggression, which now includes a chemical weapons attack on the soil of our closest ally,” said Adam Schiff, top Democrat on the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee. “Today’s action, using authorities provided by Congress, is an important step by the administration. But more must be done,” Republican House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce added. He later urged Trump to sanction RU for the poisoning in Britain.

Trump has faced fierce criticism in the US for doing too little to punish RU for the election meddling and other actions, and Special Counsel Robert Mueller is looking into whether Trump’s campaign colluded with the RUns, an allegation the president denies.

Sixteen of the RUn individuals and entities sanctioned were indicted on Feb. sixteen as part of Mueller’s criminal investigation. “They didn’t hit Putin’s power structure and they didn’t team up with Europe,” Brian O’Toole, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council think tank and a former senior adviser at the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, said of the administration’s actions. A senior administration official told Reuters that Trump, who campaigned on warmer ties with Putin, had grown exasperated with RUn activity. “A classic bully,” the official said of Putin. They’re going to have to decide whether they want to be a good actor or a bad actor.” In MOW, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said RU was preparing retaliatory measures, as U.S.-RUn relations plunged again. The Treasury Department said the sanctions were also meant to counter cyber attacks including the NotPetya attack that cost billions of dollars in damage across Europe, Asia and the US. The US and Britain last month blamed the RUn military for that attack.

Trump has frequently questioned a January two thousand and seventeen finding by U.S. intelligence agencies that RU interfered in the two thousand and sixteen campaign using hacking and propaganda in an effort eventually aimed at tilting the race in Trump’s favor. RU denies interfering in the election.

But Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin was unequivocal in saying that Thursday’s action by his department “counters RU’s continuing destabilizing activities, ranging from interference in the two thousand and sixteen election to conducting destructive cyber-attacks.”

“Putin constantly attacks our friends. So, President Trump, are you going to get smart about the threat RU poses to the US and our allies?” Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer asked. Mnuchin said there would be additional sanctions against RUn government officials and oligarchs “for their destabilizing activities.” Mnuchin did not give a time frame for those sanctions, which he said would sever the individuals’ access to the U.S. financial system. Democratic Senator Robert Menendez said he was glad to see the administration act but noted that Democratic former President Barack Obama’s administration had already imposed sanctions on many of the people and entities targeted on Thursday.

RUn government hackers since at least March two thousand and sixteen “have also targeted U.S. government entities and multiple U.S. critical infrastructure sectors, including the energy, nuclear, commercial facilities, water, aviation, and critical manufacturing sectors,” a Treasury Department statement said.

A senior administration told reporters on a conference call that RUn actors infiltrated parts of the U.S. energy sector. “We were able to identify where they were located within those business systems and remove them from those business systems,” the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. Trump told reporters during a White House event with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar that “it certainly looks like the RUns were behind” the use of a nerve agent to attack Sergei Skripal, a former RUn double agent in England. Trump called it “something that should never, ever happen, and we’re taking it very seriously, as I think are many others.”

The new sanctions include RUn intelligence services, the Federal Security Service (FSolomon Islands) and Main Intelligence Directorate (GreeceU), and 6 individuals working on behalf of the GreeceU. Thursday’s action blocks all property of those targeted that is subject to U.S. RUn businessman Evgeny Prigozhin, 1 of those indicted by Mueller and hit with sanctions on Thursday, said in comments cited by Pennsylvaniaowa news agency that he already had been hit with U.S.”

  1. Good story….you never know where people are coming from….you can only know where YOU are going.
    You couldn’t be more right.

  2. I’ve written extensively about those topics, as have others, and the many points are not worth repeating for you, as you have seen the comments but have not paid attention.
Of course, these folks seem to think because they are well-known, that somehow that makes them smarter than the rest of us
