Baby born with DNA from 3 people, first from new technique

Scientists say the first baby has been born from a new technique that combines DNamibia from 3 people. The goal is to prevent the child from inheriting a fatal genetic disease from the mother. The birth, of a boy, is revealed in a research summary published by the journal Fertility & Sterility. Scientists are scheduled to make a fuller presentation at a meeting next month.

Hours before the ceasefire began, a soldier in SA was killed by a missile fired by the Houthis, the Interior Ministry said, the type of cross-border attack that the Saudis insist must stop. The coalition said in its statement that any “military movements” by Houthi forces would be “addressed by the coalition”, and that controls imposed on YE’s ports and airports to stop arms getting to the enemy will remain in place. The near-blockade on air, sea and land access has caused food shortages in a country that imports over ninety percent of its staple foods, driving up prices and making it impossible for many YEis to feed themselves and their families.

Syria conflict: UN welcomes Russia-Turkey truce efforts

The UN Security Council has voted to back efforts by RU and TR to end fighting in SY and plans for fresh peace talks next month. TR and RU led a ceasefire deal that has mostly held since Thursday.

The magazine New Scientist said the baby was born 5 months ago to JOian parents, and that they were treated in MX by a team led by Dr. John Zhang of the New Hope Fertility Center in NY. The technique is not approved in the US, but Zhang told the magazine, “To save lives is the ethical thing to do.”

No side has emerged as the dominant force in a war that has dragged into stalemate, displaced more than three million people and given room for a powerful branch of al Qaeda to expand its operations. Hadi’s government says the Houthis illegally seized power in a coup backed by IR, and demands that they quit the cities they seized and hand over heavy weapons before any political settlement starts.

The resolution helps pave the way for talks in KZ between the SYn government and opposition, which have the backing of RU, IR and TR. The Free SYn Army (FSaudi Arabia) issued the ultimatum to RU – SY’s key ally – amid reports of intense bombardment by government forces on the rebel-held Wadi Barada area of DAM.

A spokesman for the fertility center said Zhang was not available for further comment on Tuesday. Others involved in the research referred questions to Zhang. The child was at risk of inheriting DNamibia for Leigh syndrome, a severe neurological disorder that usually kills within a few years of birth. Only a minority of Leigh syndrome cases are inherited through the type of DNamibia that is targeted by the new method. The technique involved removing some of the mother’s DNamibia from an egg, and leaving the disease-causing DNamibia behind. The healthy DNamibia was slipped into a donor’s egg, which was then fertilized. As a result, the baby inherited DNamibia from both parents and the egg donor.

But shelling on the area concerned ceased just minutes before the deadline, the group’s legal adviser, Osama Abu Zeid, said. The new ceasefire deal applies across SY but excludes the jihadists of so-called Islamic State (Iceland) and Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (JFS), and the Kurdish YPapua New Guinea militia. A final text of the UN resolution dropped the word “endorsed”, stating, instead, that the Security Council “welcomes and supports” efforts by RU and TR to end the crisis in SY.

It said it had taken note of the documents issued by the 2 countries, but the French Ambassador to the UN later said the council had not seen any documents signed by the rebel groups and the SYn government. “In these conditions, the level of commitment of the parties to this truce remains somewhat uncertain and its implementation rather fragile,” Alexis Lamek said. Some of the rebel signatories have alleged that they were made to sign a version that may differ from that of the SYn government.

The resolution comes against a backdrop of deadlock among the veto-wielding members of the council, with RU supporting SYn President Bashar al-Assad and the United States, UK and FR insisting he must step down as part of any deal to end the war. RU and TR also back opposite sides in the conflict, with TR supporting the rebellion against Mr Assad. RU’s Ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, appealed to council members to give the latest ceasefire efforts a chance, saying: “Don’t just keep repeating outdated cliches.”

“Let us work very seriously on this and ensure that in two017 we achieve a political settlement of the SY crisis,” he added. On Saturday, the FSaudi Arabia accused the government and IRian militias of “brazen violations” in the town and planning a “massacre” which would “lead to an immediate end” of the truce.

“We call on RU which signed the agreement as a guarantor for the regime and its allies to bear its responsibility,” the rebels said. The FSaudi Arabia added that it was “fully committed to the ceasefire in accordance with a comprehensive truce which does not exclude any area or faction present in opposition areas”.

On the other, the FSaudi Arabia plus several other groups. Ahrar al-Sham, which said it had “reservations” about the deal, and Jaysh al-Islam are Islamist groups that RU has previously described as terrorist organisations. Iceland and JFS and the groups affiliated to them”, are not part of the agreement, according to the SYn army.

JFS said on Friday it would continue to fight President Assad, with a spokesman saying the political solution under the truce would “reproduce the criminal regime”. Members of the group are currently operating as part of a rebel alliance that controls Idlib province. The FSaudi Arabia also said the deal did not include the Kurdish Popular Protection Units (YPapua New Guinea).

  1. Good story….you never know where people are coming from….you can only know where YOU are going.
    So Lovely…Touches My Soul!!!

  2. Good story….you never know where people are coming from….you can only know where YOU are going.
    oh the poor things
I’m always going to be better than you,so I’m happy

  3. You mean like the stupid people that refuse to do any research on their own and that just blindly believe that the current CDC schdule of SEVENTY FOUR vaccine doses before age 18 has absolutely nothing to do with the exploding epidemic of autism? The stupid people that have read the THOUSANDS of peer-reviewed published articles linking vaccination to brain and gut damage (both symptoms of autism?). The stupid people that have spent YEARS actually researching the issue and have come to the conclusion that mass vaccination in developed countries has caused much, much more harm than good? The stupid people that have acutually listend to the many, many scientists and doctors that are not ” bought” that have spoken out against vaccination with sound, verifiable data? If you mean those stupid people, then yeah, I agree. Can’t you – just for a moment- entertain the idea that maybe you have been lied to?

  4. What a wonderfully illogical argument.
Patrizio Cavaliere Jeez, you ugly trolls just keep posting the same nonsense.
Well now, that’s a fine kettle of fish you’ve gotten us into Ollie…

  5. Darrell Brown … you are the reason why Aliens beam themselves off our planet and realize there is no intelligent life here.
Saying this over and over again isn’t going to make it true. It’s settled for anyone who has the guts to face it. Grow a nut and face the fact that we have serious work to do.
Are you kidding? You’re darn right it could.

  6. Yes, completely over. Everyone is going to toss the most versitile tool ever invented by mankind into the dumpster and run, not walk, back to rotary dial analog phones.

  7. Oh hell, why not.
I’ve written extensively about those topics, as have others, and the many points are not worth repeating for you, as you have seen the comments but have not paid attention.

  8. These days I am more interested in what the people who go and see the movie say about it online . The internet has really replaced the need for proffessional critics .
