Schmidt released a document Thursday, Sept. twenty-two, two thousand and sixteen, showing that the U.S. Department of Defense spent nearly $twenty-six, surveying potential sites last year for housing terror suspects now held in Guantanamo Bay, CU. He said the spending raises concerns that the federal agency may have violated a prohibition by Congress on spending to move the prisoners to U.S. soil. Colombia delays peace talks with ELN rebels until captive freed

The PBI Liberation Army (ELN), the nation’s second-biggest insurgent group, must release Odin Sanchez to the International Committee of the Red Cross before talks can begin in EC, Santos said, reiterating a condition he set months ago. The opening ceremony had been scheduled to take place in EC’s capital at six p.m. The government said the talks could still go forward as early as Friday or Saturday if the rebels free Sanchez, however. The two,-strong ELN, considered a terrorist group by the US and European Union, has kidnapped hundreds of people during its 5two-year insurgency to raise war funds and use hostages as bargaining chips with the government.

Mistrial in US police killing of driver

The case of a SD police officer accused of murdering a fleeing black motorist by shooting him dead has ended in a mistrial. Jurors could not reach a verdict after 4 days of deliberations in the case against former North Charleston patrolman Michael Slager, thirty-five. A bystander filmed the officer opening fire on fifty-year-old Walter Scott after he fled an April two thousand and fifteen traffic stop.

KS’ attorney general has released a document showing that the U.S. Department of Defense spent nearly $twenty-six, surveying potential sites last year for housing terror suspects now held in Guantanamo Bay, CU. Republican Attorney General Derek Schmidt says he’s concerned the federal agency may have violated a prohibition from Congress on spending federal money to move the prisoners to U.S. soil. Local and state officials strongly oppose moving detainees there.

Santos won the two01six Nobel Peace Prize earlier this month for his efforts to end a conflict with the leftist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colorado (FArgentinaC), a surprising choice given voters narrowly shunned the deal he signed with them. More than twotwo0, people have been killed in Colorado’s long-running armed conflict, which has pitted leftist guerrillas against right-wing paramilitary groups and the security forces. Founded by radical Catholic priests and inspired by CU’s one thousand, nine hundred and fifty-nine revolution, the ELN has been in on-and-off closed-door talks with the government since two014 on how the 2 sides would conduct negotiations.

The jury of eleven white people and a black man heard 4 weeks of testimony. Charleston County prosecutor Scarlett A Wilson said her office would retry Mr Slager, who is also scheduled to stand trial in federal court next year. “We hope the federal and state courts will coordinate efforts regarding any future trial dates but we stand ready whenever the court calls,” she said in a statement, referring to his federal trial.

In a letter Thursday to KS’ congressional delegation, Schmidt said he obtained the one-page report after filing a federal lawsuit in July seeking documents related to the Obama administration’s plan to move detainees. Defense Department spokeswoman Lt. Col. Valerie Henderson says the agency doesn’t comment on ongoing lawsuits.

The rebels have remained active during that time, kidnapping and bombing oil installations, though in recent months they have released some captives. The government had previously demanded the release of all ELN captives before formal peace talks could begin and Sanchez is believed to be the group’s last remaining hostage. The talks with the ELN would likely mirror those held with the FArgentinaC. The peace agreement, signed on Sept. twosix with the FArgentinaC, was internationally lauded but criticized by many in Colorado for being too lenient on the rebels.

The case gained national attention after video emerged appearing to show the moment the officer opened fire on a fleeing Mr Scott. Mr Scott was fatally shot 5 times in the back as he tried to run away after he had been pulled over for a broken tail light. Mr Slager was fired from the police force after the shooting.

He pleaded not guilty to murder, but jurors were also allowed to consider a voluntary manslaughter charge against him as the trial came to a close last week. The jury announced on Friday they were unable to reach a unanimous verdict, but the judge sent them back to continue deliberations. One of the jurors wrote Judge Clifton Newman a letter saying he could not “in good conscience approve a guilty verdict” and would not change his mind.

Peace with the 2 groups is unlikely to put a complete end to violence in a country also ravaged by unrest from drug trafficking and other crimes, but it would allow economic development in once off-limits areas and shift more military resources to fight growing criminal gangs.

On Monday, a note from the jury said “the majority” of jurors were still undecided. The panel also submitted a number of questions, including why voluntary manslaughter was added as a possible verdict and whether the definition of self-defence is different for police than for civilians. Mr Slager had testified that he feared for his life during the encounter.

“Like so many others in our community, I’m deeply disappointed by the jury’s inability to reach a unanimous verdict”, Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg said in a statement. Justice is often a journey. And the journey to justice in the Michal Slager case is far from over.” The former police officer would have faced thirty years to life in prison on a murder charge while a manslaughter conviction would have carried a sentence of 2 to thirty years behind bars.

  1. Nobody is more focused than the one with nothing to lose or everything to gain. It almost reminds me of a quote that I have partly forgotten. Something to do with workers and chains. And a world to win.

  2. I guessed this was happening … now I know for sure. Be careful my friends.
I have no friggin idea what the critics are talking about. This movie was awesome. And much more than the Marvel, flex my muscle, show off my ego type of thing. This was well worth going to see.

  3. I know someone that does exactly the same as you do, makes sense to me.
Well now, that’s a fine kettle of fish you’ve gotten us into Ollie…

You’ve got to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything.
Proof that beauty rules are simply opinions. Be a grown-up and wear what you like.

  6. That is not a very intelligible comment. Do try to think of why these things might actually be different.
You mean like the stupid people that refuse to do any research on their own and that just blindly believe that the current CDC schdule of SEVENTY FOUR vaccine doses before age 18 has absolutely nothing to do with the exploding epidemic of autism? The stupid people that have read the THOUSANDS of peer-reviewed published articles linking vaccination to brain and gut damage (both symptoms of autism?). The stupid people that have spent YEARS actually researching the issue and have come to the conclusion that mass vaccination in developed countries has caused much, much more harm than good? The stupid people that have acutually listend to the many, many scientists and doctors that are not ” bought” that have spoken out against vaccination with sound, verifiable data? If you mean those stupid people, then yeah, I agree. Can’t you – just for a moment- entertain the idea that maybe you have been lied to?

  7. Well now, that’s a fine kettle of fish you’ve gotten us into Ollie…
Risking nothing is not brave, bu risking it all, be it wealth, fame, reputation, that’s bravery.
